The BTEC course explores different areas of employment within the sports sector, giving students a broader knowledge base to benefit their career. Transferrable skills are also developed facilitating progression into employment and Higher Education study outside sport.
Progression routes are very important and you have a unique opportunity to benefit from the wealth of experience from the careers advisors at Loughborough College as well as the staff and sports coaches at the BEST Centre and the hundreds of elite sports teams that visit every year.
Because your qualification is just like A levels, or any other international high school qualification, you can progress to university, or to a career or move into full-time elite level sport.
University
There are hundreds of university courses available to you throughout the world. You can aim for a scholarship in the United States, or a place at the world-renowned sports universities in the UK like Loughborough, Bath or Stirling, or one of any number of universities across Europe. You might pursue one of the many sports related courses, opt for a more liberal arts degree, or change direction completely. After completing the BTEC Extended Diploma we have had students go on to study courses as diverse as health care, policing, business management, marketing/advertising, film studies, criminology and fashion.
All students who pass the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching & Development will be guaranteed a place at Loughborough College HE centre to study a Loughborough University validated degree course. This gives the students access to all the Loughborough University sports facilities and sports teams as well as the Students’ Union. Loughborough College also offers courses validated by Nottingham Trent University.
Careers
The BTEC Extended Diploma programme is also the ideal springboard into a career in sport. Future career opportunities include teaching, coaching, officiating, sports therapy and rehab, sports science, sports nutrition and sports psychology in any sport you choose. You could work at a national governing body, or an international sports federation, or for a professional sports team. You could work in journalism, communications, PR, marketing, or at any one of a thousand sporting events in any sport in any country in the world.
